Nominated for Best Animated Short Film at this year’s Oscars, Disney’s “paperman” is a beautiful blend of traditional (hand-drawn) and computer animation. Set in 1940’s New York City, it tells the story of two young lovers brought together by a piece of paper.
So much more romantic than “sexting”, don’t you think?
Update: “paperman” won top prize at the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, February 24, 2013.
Completely agree! And it makes you think about what happens to lovely stories like this in a paperless world; a sheet of poetry landing next to you sounds like the perfect beginning to a beautiful romance, but nobody’s iPad will ever go drifting out into the world on a windy day.
A lovely thought Emily! And it makes you think about the beauty of hand-drawn animation, how lovely it is. Hats off
to Disney for getting it so right.

This is absolutely beautiful and so charming.
Isn’t it? It just lifts me up every time I watch it. Thanks for writing!
Hi Annie,
I saw this little movie and just loved it. I forwarded it to Randy and the kids. I just happened to be there when the boys and Randy watched, and I couldn’t help watching again and again too.
Very sweet!
Judy
Isn’t that you and Randy in the film? 😉
