I just wanted to be sure of you.

Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. “Pooh?” he whispered.

“Yes, Piglet?”

“Nothing,” said Piglet, taking Pooh’s hand. “I just wanted to be sure of you.”

My city is mourning a terrible accident today. A local bus packed with commuters collided with a train. Six confirmed dead. Thirty or more injured. At a reunification centre, set up not far from my home, families are waiting to learn the fate of their loved ones: children looking for parents, wives looking for husbands, friends looking for friends.

For those of us who watch this tragedy from the sidelines, there is little we can do but send our deepest sympathies. But know we are lucky that those we love are close. And hold them even closer.
